Privacy Policy
Last updated: November 3, 2026
For Her Dignity (“For Her Dignity,” “we,” “us”) is a Canadian charitable organization based in Edmonton, Alberta. We work with community-based partners to end period poverty. We respect your privacy and collect as little personal information as we need to do that work.
This policy explains what we collect through forherdignity.org (the “site”), how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We follow the ten fair information principles in Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and, where it applies, Alberta’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).
1. Information we collect
Information you give us. When you contact us, ask about volunteering or partnering, or email us, we collect what you choose to send. This is usually your name, email address and message, and sometimes your phone number or organization.
Donations. Online donations are processed by CanadaHelps, a Canadian charity that runs the secure donation form on our site. We never see or store your payment card or banking details. CanadaHelps shares your name, contact details, donation amount and any dedication or message with us, unless you choose to give anonymously. CanadaHelps’ use of your information is governed by its own privacy policy.
Information collected automatically. Like most websites, our servers and security tools record technical information when you visit. This includes your IP address, browser type, the pages you request, and the date and time. We use it only to keep the site secure and working. We do not use analytics, advertising or tracking tools.
Photos and stories from our programs. Images and stories of program participants are gathered by our implementation partners with the participant’s consent. If you appear on our site and want an image or story removed, contact us and we will remove it.
2. How we use your information
We use personal information only to:- respond to your questions and requests;
- process, acknowledge and keep records of donations, as required for charities in Canada;
- coordinate volunteers and partners;
- keep the site secure and prevent spam, fraud and abuse;
- meet our legal and regulatory obligations.
We will not use your information for any other purpose without your consent. We do not sell, rent or trade personal information, and we never will.
3. Consent
By contacting us or donating, you consent to us using your information as described in this policy. We will ask for your express consent before using it for anything new. You can withdraw consent at any time by emailing us, subject to legal or contractual limits. For example, we must keep donation records for the period the law requires.
We will only send you newsletters or other promotional email if you have asked to receive them, as required by Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL). Every message will include a way to unsubscribe.
4. Who we share information with
We share information only with trusted service providers who help us run the site and our organization. They may use it only to provide their service to us:- CanadaHelps: donation processing and tax receipts (Canada);
- Our web host: site hosting and server backups (Canada);
- Our email provider: delivering messages sent through our contact form and our replies;
- Security and content delivery services, such as Cloudflare and Wordfence: protecting the site from attacks and spam (these may process data in the United States and other countries);
- Google Drive: off-site backups of the website (may be stored outside Canada).
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, for example in response to a valid court order, or to protect the safety of a person.
5. Where your information is stored
Our website is hosted in Canada. Some of the service providers listed above store or process data in other countries, mainly the United States. When that happens, your information is protected by contract but may be accessible to courts, law enforcement and national security authorities in those countries.
6. Cookies
Our site uses only the small number of cookies needed for it to work and stay secure, such as those that protect forms from spam and block malicious traffic. We do not use cookies for analytics, advertising or tracking you across other websites. If that ever changes, we will update this policy and ask for your consent first.
The CanadaHelps donation form on our Donate page is provided by CanadaHelps and may set its own cookies. See CanadaHelps’ privacy policy for details.
7. How long we keep information
We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purpose we collected it. Contact form messages are kept for up to two years and then deleted. Donation records are kept for as long as the Income Tax Act and Canada Revenue Agency rules require, generally six years. Security logs are kept for a short period and then deleted automatically.
8. How we protect information
We use reasonable physical, technical and administrative safeguards to protect personal information. These include encrypted (HTTPS) connections, a web application firewall, strong passwords with two-factor authentication for site administrators, limited access for volunteers and staff, and regular software updates and backups. No system is completely secure. If a breach creates a real risk of significant harm to you, we will notify you and report it to the appropriate privacy regulator as the law requires.
9. Your rights
You have the right to:- ask what personal information we hold about you and how we have used it;
- ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete;
- withdraw your consent or ask us to delete your information, unless we are required to keep it;
- make a complaint about how we handle your information.
10. Children
Our site is meant for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Links to other websites
Our site links to other websites, such as CanadaHelps, our annual reports and our partners’ sites. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices, so please review their privacy policies.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. If we make significant changes, we will post a notice on our site.
13. Contact us

If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
